At this stage in their development it is crucial that children are given opportunities to be active in a safe environment and stimulated with a range of activities. Children naturally play and this should be encouraged by providing equipment such as soft balls and skittles (they need not be expensive – empty plastic drinks bottles with the tops removed make excellent skittles). You can let children make up their own games but giving them some ideas always helps.
Children at this age often have boundless energy and by being more active they will eat better (you’ll be able to get them to eat their greens!) and they’ll sleep better too.
Remember that as a parent you are a huge influence over your child and act as a major role model. If you are active yourself this will encourage your child to follow suit – get out there and be active with them!
